Dear Joyce,
I lived in Lowman, NY for 30 plus years, right across for the Lowman School in the photo on your site. It was originally built on the "Lowman Family" property. Ward and Julia (Lowman) Saunders owned the property that the school was built on; there was a provision that when it was no longer used as a school, that the property and building would revert back to the family, which it did. One of Ward's children (Judy Saunders Ripley) lived in the house for several years (in the 1980's); it is now vacant, but still owned by Julia Saunders, who lives in Lowman, NY 14861 (Town of Chemung, NY). One of the teachers was Mrs. Francis Warren, who lived on Hoffman Hollow Rd. in Lowman; she and her husband are both deceased now; they had one son, whose first name escapes me now. I am sure that Mrs. Julia Saunders would be more than happy to share what she knows about the school; also, Jason Copley Knapp, Lowman, NY would be knowledgeable. Of course, the historian for Town of Chemung is an excellent source too.

Hi Joyce,
I attended that school when I was in the first and second grade walked 3 miles
each way to get to school from ashland township it is a one room school that
taught 1-8 grades. the left side of building was the schooling area and
the right side is what was in that day the gym. To the left there was a
large tree that had a swing in it. I lived in the old Searles
homestead. Alfred was my Great grandfather.
