Reading a series of obituaries from a single cemetery, as they are presented here, is like reading the multi-generational history of a community. These people were the local populace at a particular time. The people buried here knew each other, were neighbors, relatives and school mates. They attended church together and engaged in "trade" or business. All people are listed in alphabetic order by surname at BIRTH. Women identified by a married alias only and for whom a birth surname can not be identified, are listed on the last page for the cemetery's obituaries. Please send in typed obituaries for people buried in our local cemeteries. If possible include name of newspaper and date. Send typed in your email or in attached Word files. Send to Joyce M. OLDROYD, MISS BERTHA:
Miss Bertha Oldroyd died last Thursday morning at one o’clock, aged twenty-five
years, eleven months and two days. She had been ill for nearly two years
with Bright’s disease, heart difficulties, dropsy and a complication of many other
diseases. She bore her sufferings bravely and uncomplainingly and with
true Christian fortitude and when the end came, was ready and willing to
go. She fully realized the end was near and bade her parents, sister and
brother an affectionate good bye, as well as the sorrowing friends around
her. She spoke kindly of everybody, mentioning herself last. She
has gone to her reward. She very kindly and pathetically implored of her
father and mother to always be good to her only sister and brother as they had
been to her, then begging her father not to leave her, she passed peacefully
away in his arms. The deceased is survived by her parents, Mr. & Mrs.
Mason Oldroyd, one sister, Miss Belle and one brother, Walter Fay Oldroyd,
beside a legion of sympathetic friends to morn her early demise. Her
brother and sister both being confined to their respective beds with scarlet
fever made the occasion doubly sad. The deceased was united by baptism in
the Baptist Church at Fassett, about seven years ago and has always lived a
devoted Christian life. It can be truthfully said that she never had an
enemy on earth, for to know her was to love her. The funeral services,
which were in accord with the teachings of the Baptist Church at Fassett, were
conducted at the family residence at 12 pm Saturday. Rev. J.W. Roberts of
Elmira officiated and in a solemn and impressive manner paid a glowing tribute
to the many Christian virtues and sterling qualities of the deceased. The
singing was also very impressive from the Fassett choir. The beautiful
casket was literlly buried beneath the bank of lovely flowers. Funeral
director Monroe Miller of Millerton had charge. The pall bearers were;
Messrs John Curren, Earl Congdon, William Eaton, Lynn Congdon, Robert Brown and
Ray Congdon, all young friends of the deceased. The remains were tenderly
laid at rest in the cemetery at Webb Mills, sister her sister and brother who
proceded her to her reward. Mr. & Mrs. Mason Oldroyd request the

many acts of assistance and kindness during the illness and death of their

SHERMAN Minor E.
Minor E. Sherman, aged seventy-one years was found dead at 9 o'clock Wednesday
Morning in the barn at his nephew's home, at Pine City. The body was discovered
by his nephew, Allen F. Sherman. It is thought the man died of natural causes,
as he was subject to epilepsy, although the nephew said he may have suffocated,
as when he discovered the body it lay face downward in the cow stable, with the
head buried in the bedding. At 7 o'clock Wednesday morning Mr. Sherman appeared
to be in his usual health which has been poor of late, but he was not
complaining. Allen Sherman went up on the hill vack of the farm to look after
some stock, and returned at 9 o'clock. He was looking around for the aged man
and was startled to find him laying in the cow stable. He picked him up and
carried him out to the barn floor, but he was beyond all aid. Mr. Sherman had
ben subject to epileptic fits since he was eighteen years old and of late had
been having them quite frequently. The attending physician told the family some
time ago that the aged man was liable to have a stroke and die at any time, so
they were more or less prepared for the end. Coroner Hammond was called and
