These people were the local populace at a particular time. The people buried here knew each other, were neighbors, relatives and school mates. They attended church together and engaged in "trade" or business. All people are listed in alphabetic order by surname at BIRTH. Women identified by a married alias only and for whom a birth surname can not be identified, are listed on the last page for the cemetery's obituaries. Pamela A. Age 81, of Tifft
Ave., Horseheads, died on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at Schuyler Hospital. She was
born Sept. 29, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of the late Victor and
Mildred (Knowlton) Space. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, George
Lian; sons, Rev. Fred (Kerrie) Lian of Highlands Ranch, CO, Christopher (Jill)
Lian of Elmira, NY; grandchildren, Madison Lian, Alexis and Nicholas Lian;
sister, Sybil Gibson of Sunriver, OR; brothers, David (Pamela) Space (Ret. USN)
of MN, Stephen Space of Dummerston, VT; sisters-in-law, Adele Alleman of Las
Vegas, NV, Helen (Patrick) Duffy of Palmdale, CA, Marge Lian of Kenmore, NY;
brothers-in-law, James (Linda) Lian of Newberry Park, CA, Peter Sawaya of
Olean, NY; and several nieces and nephews. Pam was also predeceased by her
sister-in-law, Norma Sawaya. Pam was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal
Church. She was retired from the Elmira City School Dist., where she was a
school nurse for many years. Prior to working at the Elmira City School
District, she was a nursing instructor for St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira. She
was a Trustee of the Horseheads Free Library Assoc., Past President and active
member of the Horseheads Women's Club, and member of the Horseheads Food
Pantry. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413
So. Main St., Horseheads, on Tuesday, March 6, 2007, from 2-4:00 p.m. and
6-8:00 p.m. A celebration of the Eucharist will take place in St. Matthew's
Episcopal Church, 408 Main St., Horseheads, on Wed., March 7, 2007, at 10:00
a.m. with the Rev. John Rafter and the Rev. Fred Lian officiating. Interment
will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery.
SPANGENBERG Clayton D. Jr.
Horseheads: Age 86, of Horseheads, died July 6, 2011, at
the Highlands Care Center in La Porte, PA. A member of the Greatest Generation,
a veteran of World War II, he proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in
India. He retired from Westinghouse Electric Corporation where he worked as a
chemical engineer. After his retirement, he was an active volunteer in the
local Food Bank, the Horseheads Library, and Meals on Wheels. He was a member
of the Elmira Symphony Orchestra and the Elmira Stamp Club. He was a member of
the Horseheads Presbyterian Church since 1954, where he served various times as
deacon, elder and as treasurer, as well as being a member of the choir. He was
preceded in death by his parents Clayton, Sr. and Elizabeth. He is survived by
his wife, Elizabeth; a son, Clayton D. (Susan) Spangenberg, III; a daughter,
Patricia (Gerard) Powierski; a sister, Dorothy (Wesley) Anderson; and, three
grandchildren, Corrin, Michelle and Cassandra. Family and friends are invited
to call at the Barber Funeral Home 413 S. Main St. Horseheads on Monday July
11, 2011 from 4-6:00 pm. A graveside service with military honors will take
place on Tuesday in Maple Grove Cemetery at 9:00 am. A memorial service will
also take place in the First Presbyterian Church in Horseheads at a late date

SPAULDING Joseph H Jr.
Montour Falls, N.Y. — Joseph H. Spaulding Jr., age 74, of Montour Falls, died
on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Schuyler Hospital. Joseph was born April 4,
1936 in Tarrytown, NY. He is the son of the late Joseph H. and Mildred M.
(Doan) Spaulding Sr. He was employed by Ann Page Foods, Inc as a Machine
Operator. Joseph retired from Ann Page Foods. He was also a short order cook at
Astor Bar and Grill and a Volunteer Firefighter for Consolidated Engine #77 in
Tarrytown, NY. Joseph was a member of the Corning Moose Lodge, Corning
Masonic Lodge #1038, Corning Consistory. Joseph is survived by one daughter:
Doris (Scott) Smith of Rochester, NY; two grandsons: Allen and Christopher
Smith, both of Rochester. He is predeceased by his brother, Donald Spaulding.

SPAZIANI Ulisse T. Jr.
Age 83 of Elmira, died peacefully on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at home
surrounded by his loving family. Ulisse was born in Elmira, the son of the late
Ulisse and Victoria Spaziani. He was predeceased by brothers, James, August and
Henry Spaziani and sisters, Anna Canali, Lydia "Lena" Rucci and Helen
Lisi. Ulisse is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Nellie (Keister)
Spaziani; son David Spaziani of Horseheads with wife Barbara and their
daughters, Amy and Lindsay; son Steven Spaziani of Horseheads with wife Beth
and their daughters, Michelle and Alison; sisters, Victoria "Theresa"
Alteri and Mary Buonanno both of Schenectady NY; sister-in-law Emily Spaziani
of Elmira; close nephew George Rucci of Elmira. Also surviving are several other
nephews and nieces. Ulisse was a US Navy veteran serving during WW II. Ulisse
was a barber in Elmira for 53 years. For nearly 40 years he worked out of the
shop he built on College Ave. before retiring in 2004. Ulisse, along with his
wife Nellie, were the owners of King Kone which opened in 1973 and is still run
by their son Steve and his family. He was an avid sports fan who especially
enjoyed football and baseball with his favorite team being the New York
Yankees. Ulisse most enjoyed spending time with his family. His grandchildren
lovingly called him both "Poppy" and "Pappy". At his
request there will be no calling hours. Friends and family are invited to a
Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, August 30, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. at St. Patrick's
Church. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.

SPEED Robert L.
Horseheads: Age 89 of Horseheads, NY died on Friday July
8, 2011. Bob was born on July 4, 1922 in Niagara Falls, NY the son of the late
William Speed. Mr. Speed was a Veteran of WWII serving his country with the
U.S. Marine Corps. He married his wife Barbara Callan Speed in 1951 and she
pre-deceased him on June 29, 1982. Bob was a General Sales Manager for SYSCO in
Horseheads, NY. He was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Horseheads,
lifetime member of the Horseheads Elks, member of the Horseheads Legion , and
the E.J. Brewer Marine Corps Detachment. Mr. Speed was also a Horseheads
Village Trustee for many years. Robert was an avid golfer at Mark Twain golf
course and enjoyed playing cards. He was also pre-deceased by his brother
Wilfred Speed and sister-in-law: Jean Gilbert. Mr. Speed is survived by his son
and daughter-in-law: William and Susan Speed of Gansevoort, NY; daughter and
son-in-law: Jenifer and Mike Driscoll of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren: Peter
and Belle Ciotti of Arcata, CA; Karen and Cory French of Horseheads, NY;
Robert, and Zachary Speed of Gansevoort, NY; Ashley Driscoll; great grandsons:
Caiden French, Rylen French, Peter Ciotti V, Westin Ciotti; sister-in-law and
brother-in-law: Bertina (Mrs. Wilfred) Speed; Walter Gilbert; several nieces,

SPERBECK - PARKER, Florence S.
Of Elmira Heights, NY
Formerly of 133 West 11th Street, was born October 20, 1918 in Phoenix, NY, the
daughter of the late Charles and Margaret (Lawrence) Sperbeck, died peacefully
on Thursday, June 5, 2008, at the Chemung County Nursing Facility at the age of
89. Her loving husband of 62 years, Rudolph D. Parker Sr., also predeceased her
February 9, 1998. She is survived by her beloved sons and daughters-in-law,
Rudolph D. and Jacqueline Parker Jr. of Elmira Heights, NY, Lance C. and Nancy
Parker of Livonia, NY, Vance and Sandra Parker, Elmira Heights, NY; along with
ten grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Florence
was employed for several years as a hostess at the former Howard Johnson
Restaurant in Horseheads, NY and retired from the former A&P Plant, also in
Horseheads. At her request, there will be no prior calling hours. Family and
friends are invited to gather at the Maple Grove Cemetery, 715 West Broad
Street, Horseheads, NY on Monday, June 9, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. The Reverend Deborah

SPINK - WILSON, Lasca L. "Toots" - Formerly of Harris
Hill and Mosherville, PA
Was born September 16, 1919 in Elmira, NY, the daughter of the late Harold and
Cora Louise (Judson) Spink, moved to her new residence in Heaven on Tuesday,
May 29, 2007, at the age of 87. In 1934 at the age of 15, Lasca
"Toots" married William S. "Seb" Wilson; they have enjoyed
72 wonderful years of life and love together. "Toots" is survived by
her loving and devoted husband, "Seb"; beloved sons and
daughters-in-law, Henry and Mary Wilson of Millerton, PA, Donald S. and Mary
Alice Wilson of Elmira, NY; much-loved grandchildren, Daniel (Kimberly) Wilson
of Appomattox, VA, Susan (Alan) Jones of Mosherville, PA, Victoria (Michael)
Shutts of Erin, NY, Gregory (Megan) Wilson of Horseheads, NY; adored
great-grandchildren, Courtney Wilson, Cassidy Wilson; Danylle Jones, Logan

Shutts. Lasca graduated from Corning Community College receiving her Bachelor
of Science in Nursing. She retired from the US Postal Service as Post Master

faithful member of the Mosherville Bible Church. In earlier years Lasca and
William enjoyed traveling in their motor home and camping with their family,
especially enjoying the many trips to Georgia and Florida. Family and friends

SQUIRES Cassius Clayton (Cash)
Age 78, of Woodbine Ave., Elmira, NY. He was born
September 18, 1928 in Cayuta, NY, son of the late Arthur G. and Olive
(Burlingame) Squires, and died Thursday, December 7, 2006 at the Arnot Ogden
Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his
brothers, Levi and Garfield; sisters, Belle Hollenbeck, Ruth Hornbeck, Alberta
Linderberry and Alma Bennett. Cash is survived by his wife of 56 years,
Margaret (Edmister) Squires; children and their spouses, Kenneth (Joy Connelly)
Squires of Elmira, Joan Squires Campbell of Elmira, Gary (Tari Lemmer) Squires
of Salamanca, NY, Patricia Squires (Terry Adams) of Elmira, Sue Squires
VanTreese (Richard) of Campbell, NY, Jeffery Squires of Elmira and Barbara
Squires of Elmira; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Edith

Church. He retired from Callahan Construction in Beaver Dams and owned and

NY. She was born October 22, 1920 in Erin, NY, daughter of the late Arthur

STALKO Connie A. Wood
Age 65 of Horseheads, NY died on Wednesday August 31,
2011 at home. Connie was born August 11, 1946 in Elmira, NY the daughter of the
late Shirley E. Wood Skalko. She was a graduate of Horseheads High School and
received her Nursing Degree from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing.
Connie was a Registered Nurse having worked at St. Joseph's Hospital, The NYS
Dept. of Corrections, and The Chemung County Nursing Facility. She was a member
of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Horseheads, NY. Connie
loved painting, being a Registered Nurse, watching TV, and listening to country
music. Connie is survived by her Beloved Companion Sarah L. Cole; uncles and
aunts: Loren "Zeke" & Janice Wood of Horseheads, NY and Alan
& Leah Cramer of Horseheads, NY; several nieces, nephews, great nieces,
great nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends including special nephews

STAMP Donald R. Stamp
age 78, of Elmira, NY, died on Friday, October 29, 2010 at his home with his
loving family by his side. Donald was born on July 31, 1932 in Elmira, son of
the late Ridgway and Margaret (Champion) Stamp. Donald was predeceased by his
wife, Theresa (Wisniewski) in 1996 and sister, Flora Wood. Donald served our
country honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean War, receiving
the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Navy Occupation
Service Medal. He retired from Westinghouse in Horseheads, NY, after many years
as an Electronics Technician. Donald was a longtime member of Horseheads Elks
Club BPOE #2297, White Eagles Club in Elmira, and Elmira Heights American
Legion Post# 154. Donald is survived by his daughter, Mary Theresa Stamp
(James) Tinker of Horseheads; sons, Daniel Stamp of Horseheads and Michael
R.(Deborah) Stamp of Elmira; grandchildren, Sarah and David R. Stamp, Joshuah
and Jesse R. Tinker of Horseheads; sisters, Junita (George) Springstead of
Elmira Heights and Margaret Shirley of Elmira; several nieces, nephews and

Age 90 of Elmira, NY. She was born June 21, 1923 in Binghamton, NY, daughter of the late Clarence and Irma (Rosa) Stanford and died Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. She was predeceased by her husband Arnold "Tom" Doud in 1982 and sisters Virginia Mayo and Flora Courtright and is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Lynn and Dawn Doud; grandson Andrew Doud all of Horseheads; sister and brother-in-law Jacquelynn and Harold Krause of Wellsburg along with several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Doud retired from Bethany Village. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Breesport and volunteered with RSVP. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. STANTON –DONNA R. SWAYZE, age 71, of 5551 Maiden
Lane, Millport, NY, died Saturday, April 9, 2005, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in
Elmira, NY. Donna was born in Olean, NY, daughter of the late Harold and
Edith (Smith) Stanton. Donna was predeceased by her husband, Richard in
1986. She was a longtime member of Millport Fire Dept. Auxiliary.
She loved Nascar Racing and bird watching, but most of all she loved being with
her family. Survivors include daughters, Deborah (David) Spahalsk, Mary
(Pat) Mosher, and Lisa (Jeffery) Blim, all of Watkins Glenn, NY, Dorothy (Paul)
Swayze of Corning, NY, and Diane Swayze of Millport; sons, John (Carol) Swayze
of Cayuta, NY and David Swayze of Millport; brother, James (Nancy) Stanton of
Elmira, NY; sister, Betty Shea of Birmingham, AL; 15 grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren; special friend, Betty Rush of Millport. Family and

STANTON Wanda L. Courtright
Age 88, of Horseheads, died Sun. May 1, 2011 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. She was born Feb. 14, 1923 in Elmira, NY to Glycon and Hazel (Ames) Stanton. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Francis Courtright, in 2004. She is survived by her daughter and son, Sheila Courtright of Horseheads, Emmett (Kay) Courtright, also of Horseheads; grandchildren, Melissa (Gordon) Murray, Darren Courtright, Megan (Jeremy) Heath, Jason (Felicia) Hyde, Mandi Hyde; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Belva Donohoe of Horseheads; and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her sister, Betty Jane Eddy. Wanda was devoted to her family and her faith. Wanda was also a devoted homemaker who, with her husband, was a longtime dairy farmer on the land that is now Soaring Eagles Golf Course. In 1963, Francis and Wanda built, owned and operated Francourt Farms Golf Course until their retirement at the end of 1970 after selling to Elmira College. Wanda was also a member of the Veteran Grange and Chemung County Farm Bureau. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., Horseheads on Wed. STERLING Elizabeth "Betty" DAVIS
Age 88 of Horseheads went home peacefully to be with the Lord Saturday March 16, 2013. Betty was born in County Antrim, Ireland on Dec. 26, 1924 to Hugh and Nancy Jane (Reid) Sterling. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Leland "Lee" Davis in 2009 and is survived by her daughter and son, Nancy and George White of Horseheads, NY, Richard and Donna Davis of Athens, GA; grandchildren, Colin Davis, Brendan Davis, Devon Davis, Reid and Katrina Anderson, Steven Anderson; great grandchildren, Cohen, Wesley, Brooklyn and Audrey Anderson. Several nieces and nephews and friends. Both Betty and her husband Lee were members of Gideon's International. STERMER Marjorie R.
Age 81, and longtime resident of MacIntosh Lane in Bethany Village died on
Monday, February 15, 2010. She was born Apr. 4, 1928 in Elmira, NY, the
daughter to the late F. Edward and Helen (Newell) Stermer. Marjorie was also
predeceased by her brother, Edward Stermer in 1959; her father, Ed in 1985; and
mother, Helen in 1997. Marjorie was a graduate of Elmira College and a longtime
employee of their family Insurance Company, F. Edward Stermer Insurance in
Elmira until 1975 and later Perry and Carroll Insurance until her retirement.
She was also a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club, Chemung
County 4-H and a volunteer for Arnot- Ogden Medical Center, Chem. Co. SPCA and
Bethany Village. Marjorie was also a member of the Central Christian Church in
Elmira. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed her weekly games with
friends. Her family includes her cousins, Jolina Klesa of Horseheads, Charlene

Dale W. Age 70, of Elmira Heights, NY, died on December 22, 2001. He was born
May 23, 1931 in Mount Union, PA, the son of the late Zella M. and Fred C.
Stewart. Dale graduated from Williamsport Technical Institute with a degree in
Electrical Instrumentation in 1963. He worked for 25 years at Westinghouse in
Horseheads, NY and retired from Imaging and Sensing Technologies in 1991. He is
survived by his wife of 42 years, Patricia A. Stewart, and two sons, Jon D.
(Arlene) Stewart of Gainesville, FL,and David M. (Kristy) Stewart of Breesport,
NY; granddaughter, Lauren C. Stewart, along with eight brothers and sisters.

Age 81 of Berkley Lane in Horseheads died after and
extended illness on Sat. Nov. 12, 2011 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Nona
was born in Waverly, NY to the late Floyd and Myra (Hall) Stewart. She is
survived by her husband, Ernest Langdon; daughters, Nancy (Robert) Lopuch of
Amsterdam, NY, Penny (Richard) Diehr of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren, Bryon
Quackenbush, Eric (Valerie) Andrews, Lori (Benjamin) Cooke; one great-grandson,
Matthew Cooke. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Elaine Grant, Dorothy
Mandeville, and Bobbi Stewart. Nona was retired as a switchboard operator with
the former Facet Enterprises in Elmira Heights, NY. She was an active bowler
and square dancer. She also enjoyed boating, a good game of tennis and watching

Norma loved her home, gardening and time with her family. Along with her husband Gerald, she also loved the years spent on Keuka Lake. She was a self-driven lady with an infectious character. She enjoyed traveling the country. Above all else, Norma was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. Age 74, of Elmira, NY, died peacefully with her family by her side on Friday,
January 1, 2010. Hazel was born on September 4, 1935 in Mansfield, PA, daughter
of the late Elmer and Dorothy (Turner) Stout. Hazel retired from Elmira
Stamping after many years as a machinist. She was a longtime member of the
American Legion Post # 443 in Elmira. She loved to play bingo and cuddle up
with her beloved cat, "Cuddles", but most of all she loved being
devoted to her family. Survivors include her daughters, Rose (Bill) Seymour of
Elmira and Robin (Jack) Fields of Gillett, PA; son, Roger (Sue) Foster of NC;

Ralph F. Age 103 of 1 Hill Vale Drive Horseheads, NY died on Friday October
14, 2005 at Schuyler Hospital. Mr. Stow was born February 16, 1902 in the Town
of Veteran the son of the late Fred and Jennie Thorn Stow. Ralph married his
wife, Hazel L. Chapman Stow, on August 14, 1928 and she pre-deceased him on
August 13, 2001. He was also pre-deceased by his brother Theodore Stow and his
sisters Ruth Stow and Margaret Lattin. Mr. Stow operated Hill Vale Farm in
Horseheads for several years and was a retired bus driver for the Horseheads
Central School System. Mr. Stow is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: M.

Mrs. Teresa Nichols died at the family home, 71 Center Street, Horseheads, at
10 o’clock last night. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. E.
Stowe, two daughters, Harriet and Bessie, and two sons, Charles and Burr, all
at home and by two sisters, Miss Ina Stowe and Miss Mary Stowe of Horseheads.

Walker Audrey F. Age 71, of Horseheads, NY, died March 21, 2006 at Arnot-Ogden
Medical Center, Elmira, NY. She was born November 25,1934, the daughter of Ida
Bates and the late Richard Strong. Audrey is survived by her husband of 53
years, Charles E. Walker; daughters, Marilyn Uhler of Elmira, NY, Connie
Leister of Pine Valley, NY; son, Larry Walker of Elmira Heights, NY; son
and daughter-in-law, Keith and Annette Walker of Horseheads, NY; sisters,
Virginia Bailey, Edna (Vincent) Link, Jeana Stermer of Elmira, NY; several
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Audrey was a homemaker
and loved and cared for horses in her younger years. She also enjoyed living in

Age 73 of Horseheads, NY died on Sunday April 29, 2012 at
St. Joseph's Hospital. Jim was born July 24, 1938 in Elmira, NY the son of the
late John E. and Margaret "Peg" Murphy Strong. He was a graduate of
Notre Dame High School and The New York State Peace Officers Academy and also
attended Elmira College. Jim served his country with The U.S. ARMY from
1961-1973 attaining the rank of First Sergeant and was a member of
Bentley-Trumble American Legion Post #442 of Horseheads, NY. He was a member of
The Republican National Committee, The National Rifle Association, The
Selective Service Board, and a communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church in
Horseheads, NY. Jim retired as the area supervisor for Morris Protective
Service in Elmira, NY and was a former employee of Winchester Optical Company
in Elmira, NY, The Chemung County Sheriff's Office Correction Department, and
The Chemung County SPCA. Jim was a dedicated and long-time associate of the
Lynch Funeral Home in Horseheads, NY. Jim was pre-deceased by his parents and
his canine companions Fraulein Stephenie T. Vaughan-Strong and Heir Rocky
Vaughan-Strong. Jim is survived by his loving and devoted partner of 30 years
Cindy L. Vaughan; sons: Dr. John A. Strong of Buffalo, NY and Michael D. &
Margo Strong of Elmira Heights, NY; grandsons: Michael D. Strong Jr. and Dakota

Margaret S. (Stroud) Age 90, of Appleridge in Horseheads and formerly a long
time resident of Arnold Avenue died Saturday August 13, 2005. She was
predeceased by her husband, Fred C. Miles, Feb. 22, 2005, and is survived by her
sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Carolyn Miles of Murrells Inlet, SC,
John and Deborah Miles of Weatherford, TX; grandchildren, Brett, Bradd, Bekki,
John Miles, Jr., and Kimberly; sister-in-law, Irene Miles of Horseheads; five
great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Also predeceasing were her
brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Ruth Stroud. Margaret was born July 31,
1915 in Elmira Heights, NY, the daughter of the late Erwin and Lena (Cook)
Stroud. Mrs. Miles was a longtime, over 75-year member of Oakwood United
Methodist Church. Mr. and Mrs. Miles both retired from the Elmira Heights
School District. Her husband Fred was the former head mechanic there until his
retirement in 1977. Margaret was a bus driver there until her retirement. Family

age 77, of the Town of Tyrone, NY died
, Jesus Christ, Monday, November 22, 2010 while in the comfort of her home on
the shores of Waneta Lake. Honoring her wishes, there will be no prior calling

14478. Nancy was born February 2, 1933 in Rochester, NY, the daughter of the
late Myron and Kathleen Leach Stuart. She graduated from Horseheads High School
in 1951; and received her B.S. Degree in Home Economics from Buffalo State
College in 1955. On June 26, 1954 in Horseheads United Methodist Church, she
married Kent L. Wilmott. They have lived locally since 2003, previously of
Novato, CA; and formerly of Sparta, NJ. A loving wife and mother, Nancy was a
very active member of the Bluff Point United Methodist Church, starting a prayer
shawl ministry, belonging to the United Methodist Women; she served on the
California Election Board; was a member of the League of Woman Voters, and the
P.T.A. In her spare time, she loved making crafts, design and home decorating,
knitting and needlepoint. She is loved and will be dearly missed by her husband
of 56 years, Kent L. Wilmott at home; three sons, Michael K. (Heidi) Wilmott of
Waneta Lake, and their four children, Kyle, Eric, Holly and Seana; Brian S.
(Sandy) Wilmott also of Waneta Lake, and their three sons, Justin, Joshua and
Jacob; and youngest son, James D. L. (Nicole) Wilmott of Novato, CA, and their

Vincent Age 87, of Elmira, NY, born July 19, 1914, died unexpectedly Saturday,
December 29, 2001 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Vincent was the son of the late
Karl and Frances Studzinski. He was predeceased by: his wife Rena M. Studzinski
and his brother Henry Studzinski. He is survived by: his brother; Lewis Senkow,
sister; Florence R. Ball and a very special friend Lee Dibucci and several
nieces and nephews. Vincent was an Army veteran who was honorably discharged
after serving in WWII. "Vinnie", as he was affectionately called, was

SULLIVAN - CURNS, Eileen Sullivan
"If love could have saved you, you would have lived a
lifetime." Age 68, of Elmira, walked the steps to Heaven's
door on Thursday Evening, September 3, 2009. Eileen was born June 29, 1941,
daughter of the late Cornelius L. and Catherine Donovan Sullivan. In addition
to her parents Eileen is predeceased by her husband James B. Curns, sister
Betty Carpenter, father-in-law and mother-in-law Harold "Bud" and
Mildred Curns, brothers-in-law, Frank J. Vawter and Arnold W. Mitchell. Eileen
is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Daniel B. & Pamela Curns of
Fairbanks, AK, with daughters, Sarah and Rachel; daughter and son-in-law,
Rebecca A. & David Grasso of Elmira, with children, Eric Cheney, Paul,
Nicholas and Taylor Grasso; sisters, Mary Ellen Mitchell of Millerton, PA,
Catherine S. Vawter of Rochester; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert G.
and Patricia Curns of Canandaigua, NY, Edward M. Carpenter of Elmira, Nancy C.
Barnes of Fresno, CA; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and many, many dear
friends. Eileen was a graduate of Notre Dame High School. She went on and
graduated from Nazareth College, then received her Masters Degree in Education
from Mansfield University. Eileen had a varied career, always helping others.
She was a Speech Therapist with BOCES, Special Education teacher with the
Elmira City School District and worked for Cerebral Palsy House in Horseheads.
Eileen was a member of St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary, where she served on the
board. She volunteered at the Elmira Soup Kitchen and was an active parishioner
at St. Mary's Church, Elmira, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and helping
with the Sunday children's liturgy program. Eileen was an accomplished quilter
and avid gardener. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of
Water and Walnut Sts., on Sunday, September 6, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, September 7, 2009 at
9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's
Church, Elmira. Interment at Maple GroveCemetery, Horseheads will be Tuesday,
September 8, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Donations in Eileen's memory may be directed to

EDDY Lois Ann Age 74 of Horseheads, NY died on Friday March 24, 2006 at St.
Joseph's Hospital in Elmira, NY. Lois was born November 27, 1931 in Ulysses, PA
the daughter of the late William and Helen Cochran Swan. She married her husband,
Carlton H. Eddy, on August 12, 1950 and he pre-deceased her on September 1,
1995. Lois was also pre-deceased by her daughter, Candy Lynn Countryman, on
July 7, 2000 and by her son-in-law, Edward Williams, on December 4, 1993 and
her brother Jack Swan in 2005. She was an avid bowler and loved ceramics and
reading. Lois was a retired cashier at P & C Market in Horseheads, NY. Lois
is survived by her children: Barbara & Ralph Mitstifer of Cayuta, NY;
Carlton W. Eddy of Breesport, NY; Wendy Allen of Breesport, NY; Sandra &
David Collins of Pine City, NY; Hugh Scott Eddy of Millerton, PA; 11

Age 81 of Horseheads, NY died on Thursday October 9, 2008. Jim was born October
5, 1927 in Horseheads, NY the son of the late Fred and Mary Jane Washington
Swan. He married his wife Mary E. Eccles Swan on June 11, 1970 and they
recently celebrated their 38th Wedding Anniversary. Jim was a retired truck
driver with Delmont Trucking Company of Elmira, NY and member of Teamsters'
Local # 529. He also worked at Horwitz Paper Company and JoAnn Fabrics in
Horseheads, NY. Mr. Swan was a member of The First Baptist Church of Horseheads
and a former member of The Horseheads Retired Lions Club. Jim was pre-deceased
by his parents; his son James Edward Swan; his brothers Fred Swan, William
Swan, and John Swan; his sisters Marion Swan Thompson and Winifred Swan
Berhannan. Mr. Swan enjoyed electronics, tinkering, and doing small engine
repairs. Jim loved his family and friends and cherished the time he spent with
them. Jim is survived by his loving and devoted wife Mary E. Eccles Swan;

Winifred (Swan) - Retired Sears Roebuck Employee - Age 83 formerly of Prospect
Hill Road Horseheads, NY died on Wednesday August 22, 2007 in Cerritos, CA.
Winnie was born September 25, 1923 in Elmira, NY the daughter of the late Fred
and Mary Jane Washington Swan. Winifred married her husband, Raymond C.
Berhannan, who pre-deceased her on May 31, 1985. Mrs. Swan was also
pre-deceased by her son, Daniel C. Berhannan, who died on November 16, 1995.
She was also pre-deceased by her brothers Fred Swan Jr., William Swan, John
Swan, and by her sister Marion Swan Thompson. Mrs. Swan attended Maranatha Bible
Chapel in Horseheads, NY. Winnie was a retired sales clerk at Sears Roebuck at
The Arnot Mall and worked at Coach USA Arena in Elmira, NY prior to moving to
California to live with her daughter and her family. Winnie loved her family
and friends and treasured the time she spent with them. She also enjoyed
playing Lotto. Mrs. Berhannan is survived by her loving and devoted daughter

SWEENEY - Katherine P. Carlton age 94, of Watkins Road in Horseheads, formerly of Savona, NY died Monday, September 14, 2009, at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira. Katherine was born in Elmira Heights on April 17, 1915, the daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Kurzeak) Sweeney. She was the wife of the late Harrison T. Carlton. Katherine was retired from Corning Glass Works, Corning, NY, in 1977 where she had worked as a Lab Technician with 42 Active years of service. She is survived by her son, Gerald (Ann) Carlton of Savona, NY; sister, Helen Davis of Ithaca, NY; brother, Andrew Sweeney of Hartford, AL; sister-in-law, Doris Sweeney of Horseheads, NY; granddaughters: Tonya Kashmer of Campbell, NY, and Tammy (Peter) Reddish of Allegany, NY; grandsons: Bryan Carlton of Hernando, FL, and Kenneth (Judy) Carlton of Hernando, FL; many great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a twin sister, Kathleen D. Richardson; brothers, John and Frank; and sisters, Mary and Sally. SWEET Roland J.
Age 85 of The Manor at Bethany Village died on Saturday February 28, 2009. Mr.
Sweet was predeceased by his wife Hazel who died on December 16, 2008. He is
survived by his children Pauline Geary of Oak Park, Illinois and Franklin Sweet
of Syracuse, NY; grandchildren Richard (Bobbi) Geary, Monica Geary, Nathan
(Renee) Sweet, and Franklin Sweet II; great grandson Owen Sweet along with
several nieces and nephews. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Sweet served in the
Army Air Corps in the South Pacific. He was a retired truck driver having
driven for Dairylea and Suit-Kote. He was a life-time member of the Horseheads
American Legion Post #442. Mr. Sweet's family wishes to thank the staff and
friends at Appleridge and Bethany Village for providing him with the quality of
life he enjoyed for the past few years. Relatives and friends are invited to

March 2, 2009 from 12 Noon to 2 PM. Mr. Sweet's Funeral Service will be held following
