Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers
Div. 58

Flagholder Table of Contents

This flagholder was found in Schoharie County NY. It was the only one in the small cemetery and I have not to date found others. It is on the grave of John Houck 1832-1909, but there is no guarantee it is located on the right grave. I found many others in a cemetery in Oneonta of the fancier design with the train, also of Division 58. I suspect that this is an earlier version of Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen either adding Firemen to their organization or merging with a group of Locomotive Firemen. At least one of the markers had the full name of the organization engraved on the back of the marker, so there is no question about the correct name.

The fancier version on the left is common in several
color variations in a cemetery in Oneonta NY. The one
above I have seen only one instance of. Both are for
Div. 58 of the organization.
