This particular organization of this name was founded in 1870 as an auxiliary to the Order of United American Mechanics. These flagholders date to before 1915 when Daughters of Liberty became the Sons and Daughters of Liberty. See the pages for its sibling organizations for a discussion of its anti-immigration, anti Catholic, anti-whatever positions.

The name Daughters of Lliberty was earlier used to describe women who worked underground, along with the Sons of Liberty, in opposing the Stamp Act and other constrictions imposed by the British during Colonial times. They continued to operate during the American Revolution. That early organization has no connection whatever to this nineteenth century group.
