There is a series of books called The Search for Missing Friends. It is Irish immigrant advertisements placed in the Boston Pilot paper looking for friends and relatives.
"Of James Hickey, native of Mossgrove, parish of Templemartin, Co. Cork, who came to this country 6 years ago, left Elmira in September last was supposed to be in Detroit MI. Anyone knowing anything concerning him will confer a favor by addressing his cousins, John and Dennis Collins Elmira, NY". This is dated May 23, 1857
I hope this helps. I also have burial information of St. Peter
and Paul's Cemetery. There are several John Collins:
John Collins b 1/2/1860 d Sept. 29, 1907. Wife Joanna BRITT.
Buried St. John's Cemetery, Troy, Bradford Co., PA.
John Collins b 1870 d Sept. 1, 1872. Son of Jerry Collins and Alice Mahoney.
Jhn Collins d May 28 1892. Plot of Pat Collins.
John Collins d Oct. 2, 1899. Plot of Ellen Collins.
John Collins v 1873 d 4/3/1907. Plot of John Collins
John Collins d 10/26/1898. Plot of John Collins
John D. Collins b 1/9/1882 d 7/22/1921 Bu w/Dennis and Catherine Dempsey.
Large Monmument Collins/Demsey in SSPP Cemetery.
John F. Collins d 8/30/1898 St. Mary's Church.

Hi. I'm researching a Collins who lived in Elmira, NY in the 1860s. You created a table for www.JoyceTice.com at some point in the past; here's a link to it: http://www.joycetice.com/families/irish01.htm
You refer to a John Collins from County Cork who immigrated prior to 1857. What is the source of this information? I'm trying to determine if this is my John Collins or somebody else -- mine immigrated in 1857 or 1858.
