TOMPKINS CORNERS CEMETERY
CATLIN TOWNSHIP, CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y.
The following list is part of Rhoda ENGLISH Ladd's Tioga County Cemetery Inscriptions– Volume 4.
Located on Holoman Hollow Road on Harris Hill, near Elmira, NY, this is a quarter mile straight back in the woods, with no road. It is completely abandoned and overgrown. Copied by Agatha Kinner, 555 E. Water St., Corning, NY .
I am assuming that this cemetery named Thompson Corners Cemetery in the Tioga County book is the same as Tompkins Corners Cemetery C124 in the Chemung County list.
Joyce,
In searching the cemetery lists on your site I found an error. On the Catlin cemetery page you have Tompkins Corners Cemetery listed. This caught my eye because that cemetery is long gone and no one ever compiled a list of who was buried there. I recognized many of the names as being buried in the MILLS Cemetery off West Hill Rd. A in the Town of Big Flats. I checked the Big Flats cemetery page and they are indeed the same listings. Mills cemetery list is correct as is, but the burial list for Tompkins Corners Cemetery should be eliminated.

Joyce,
I know you are very busy but just thought you would want to know about that cemetery page error. I got excited when I saw it. Thought someone may have found a old list that has been hidden away. I saw the painting of the farm at Tompkins Corners on the Big Flats web site which mentioned a cemetery containing her ancestors, so had to check it out. I believe the Tompkins Corners cemetery would have been across
the road from the farmhouse where a church used to be. There have been stones found on old farms up that way. One just up the hill from where the barn sits, which would be in the Town of Catlin, per the Town of Catlin Town Clerk. There is now a new housing development there and the owners did not know what to do with the stone. The other "cemetery" I am told is up in the Mary road area. Probably both cemeteries are family farm cemeteries.

Listing Removed. It is identical to the Mills cemetery listing March 2007. There is no listing for Tompkins Corners Cemetery.
