Hello. My name is Bill Poray. I am in Fairport, near Rochester, New York.
I stumbled upon your wonderful website yesterday. I was able to find an
ancestor, Herman Broekhuizen, in the 1917 Directory. I am attaching two
photos, one of a house that is labeled in an album I have as belonging
to Herman (Harmon actually) Broekhuizen. I have two addresses for him.
The 1917 Directory lists him as living at 1130 Hall. I have another address
from the 1920 census: 509 West Hill St. [See house photo below]
The other photo is, I believe, of a gas station that I believe my grandfather
briefly owned. He was Harmon Poray, and probably owned or operated it in
somewhere in the Elmira area from in the mid 1920's. He did not stay in
Elmira long, he returned to Wayne County, NY. If I get down to Elmira soon,
I will look him up in the directories from that period to see if I can
find him. Do you know if any of these directories are scanned and online?
Love your website. Thanks for all your hard work.
Sincerely, Bill Poray
Response from Joyce - I have a 1923 directory here. Harmon Poray was
