Hi Joyce, I was visiting your website and noticed your fantastic collection of ...bibles.  I would like to share our family records to your collection. We obtained a copy of the Revolutionary War Pension Application of Absalom Cary and his bible record was included. A piece of a second bible was also in this pension.  Although the Nathaniel and Sarah Cooley did not live in Chemung Co, their daughter Temperance was the wife of Absalom Cary...both lived and died in Chemung.

Cary - Cooley Bible

Bible Record of Absalom Cary from his Am. Rev. War Pension File.

Surnames in this record:

Note: Absalom CARY and his wife Temperance Cooley were both said to be born in Orange Co, NY. The family moved to Chemung Co, NY c1820 where they died and are buried in the Old Dry Brook Cemetery.  This old cemetery is sadly neglected;  the old pioneer tombstones are sinking, disintegrating and disappearing.  Most or all of the children of Absalom and Temperance Cary were born in Orange County and several moved to Chemung. Nathaniel and Sarah (CARPENTER) COOLEY were also of Orange Co, NY. This record is a transcript of a single page in the pension file. It was handwritten and was probably entered into Absalom Cary's pension file c1893.  The odd statement in this record, "leaf of the New Testament, torn apart" suggests that this record was made from 2 separate bibles and that one was only partially included in the pension
file. It is possible that someone else may have/find the remaining pieces of the page of Nathaniel COOLEY's bible record.  The following is
a transcript from the papers in the Revolutionary War Pension Application of Absalom Cary:
